Our HSCL Coordinator is Ms. Carmel Shaughnessy. Carmel is the link between the school, the home and the community. She looks for ways to support parents and help them to remain involved in their child’s school life. Carmel is also here to help in the transition from Primary to Secondary School and to explain or answer the questions that parents don’t always feel they can ask.
She is on hand to give parents advice where possible and to listen to parents when school related problems arise. Carmel is also a part of the pastoral care team in the school, whose role is to support and promote the welfare and wellbeing of all students in the school.
In addition, HSCL organises classes for parents and encourages them to attend. Courses include Maths Classes for Parents and Christmas Flower Arranging. Such classes not only help parents develop new skills, but also recognise the importance of parents having time to themselves.
It also gives them the opportunity to share in the life and work of the school alongside their children. Carmel believes that parents play a vital role in the on-going education of their children and she helps parents to develop their potential in this area. The scheme is not confined to within the school walls, the scheme co-ordinator makes as many home visits as possible throughout the year.
In addition, the scheme builds bridges between the school and the many groups, organisations and agencies within the wider community. Such links include our Local Family Resource Centre, Local Adult Literacy Centre and many others. Carmel can be contacted directly on 086 7953816.
